Now You Can Author a Multimedia Storybook Library

BookCreator.com

The Book Creator app makes it easy to author a multilingual library with students and their families. You can make books that are just a few pages long or ones that contain the content of an entire lesson. You can embed audio of the entire text or just key words and phrases. The project can publish instantly as an ebook. It is possible to produce quick translated versions by copy-pasting from Google Translate. Book pages can be recombined for new books.

Multilingual Texts on TED

Multilingual Texts on TED

Ted.com

A rich source of multilingual texts is the transcripts of talks and videos on TED.com. TED is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting ideas, typically in the form of short, impactful lectures (18 minutes or less). TED originated in 1984 and it now includes topics from science to business to global challenges — in over 110 languages. TED Translators is a global volunteer group that subtitles TED Talks and produces transcripts. The topics are best suited for the upper grades and for adults because they can be intellectually challenging. The videos and their transcripts lend themselves to lots of activities (discussions, summarizing, paraphrasing, presenting, comparing-contrasting, creating posters and art). You can also encourage multilingual families to add their own translations to the collections of less available languages.
